Client’s Objective
A major diversified multi-national company wanted to enter the U.S. equipment leasing and financing market.
Project Design
- Provide client executives with an understanding of various segments of the market.
- Help the client determine their preferred market segment and define their acquisition parameters.
- Develop information on potential acquisition candidates that may satisfy the client’s acquisition parameters.
- Contact those candidates that are of greatest interest to the client, and gather information on those that are willing to consider being acquired.
- Arrange meetings with the most promising candidates.
- Guide the client in their determination of the preferred candidate, negotiation of a letter of intent, performance of due diligence and finalization of an acquisition agreement.
Value Delivered to Client
- The value delivered to the client is summarized by the client in the following unsolicited letter we received from the General Manager of the U.S. business unit responsible for this acquisition: "On behalf of [Acquirer], I’d like to thank you again for your support on our purchase of [Target]. When we retained you to help us find a suitable opportunity in the small ticket leasing space, we expected a process that would take at least a year. Within a few months you were able to not only expose us to several interesting opportunities, but also guide us through the challenging purchase of [Target]. Without your support and extensive knowledge of the leasing industry, we don’t think we could have been successful. We value your insight and hope you continue to work with us at [Target]."
Outcome
- The acquired business has grown very rapidly with the support of the new parent company, and the original management team remains in place.
- We have subsequently helped the acquired business expand into the Canadian market.
