Senior Managing Director

Carl C. Chrappa is senior managing director and Asset Management Practice Leader. He possesses over five decades of hands-on equipment valuation and inspection experience. Together with remarketing acumen obtained over years of auction company experience and retail equipment remarketing, with the goal of preparing the most accurate appraisals and obtaining the highest possible proceeds from equipment sales.

Carl is a nationally and internationally recognized expert and speaker. He regularly writes for industry trade magazines, and for such outlets as The Wall Street Journal, the L.A. Business Times, TheStreet.com, CNBC MoneyLine, and NPR radio.

Carl is a founding and current member of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association’s (ELFA’s) Equipment Management Committee and has been named Chair Emeritus. He is a three-term chair of the National Association for Business Economics-Manufacturing Roundtable. He is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s “Livingston Report” Macroeconomic Survey panel. The ELFA presented Carl with the Distinguished Service Award for his efforts to promote education and knowledge within the Association.

Prior to joining Alta, Carl served as Senior Staff Appraiser and Head of Appraisal Training at Factory Mutual Engineering; as Appraisal Manager for the Kemper Group; as Vice President of Equipment Valuation and Remarketing for International Capital Equipment; as VP of Asset Management Head of Auctions and Appraisals at TRAC Systems, a subsidiary of the Henley Group, and. He was hired to be president and COO of Independent Equipment Company (IEC), the nation’s oldest equipment management company and a subsidiary of D’Accord Financial Inc. Chrappa merged IEC with Alta in 2013.

He holds several senior appraisal accreditations (A.S.A., M.R.I.C.S., I.F.A.) and has completed certificate courses in General Estimating, and Project Economics & Risk Management at the University of Missouri. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Sciences.
