Sam Ray, a director with The Alta Group based in Dallas, leverages skills developed over 30 years in the equipment leasing and finance industry to help Alta clients increase revenues, manage opportunities, and resolve business challenges. His work is expanding Alta’s reach into such high growth industries as U.S. renewable energy markets, including solar, wind and other energy sources.

Sam draws on his broad leasing and corporate planning experience to work on Alta projects involving strategic planning, market research, competitive analysis, vendor and captive finance, operations analysis, due diligence, benchmarking and litigation support. His market entry studies are defining target market segments for major leasing companies, determining factors that are critical for success, matching these factors with the skills of clients, and providing clients with detailed market entry plans. A recent strategic planning project Sam completed for a large captive leasing company helped the company blend two competing organizations into a cohesive, efficient unit. He also has provided expert witness testimony in cases involving the U.S. Department of Justice, the bankruptcy of a major retailer, disputes between participants in lease transactions, and disputes involving the ability to execute a business plan after a divestiture.

Sam joined Alta in 1999. Formerly with Electronic Data Systems (EDS), he worked in corporate planning before joining its equipment leasing section and delving into cross-border leasing and special financial structures tailored to address capital requirements and tax issues. At EDS, Sam addressed leasing issues as both a lessor and a lessee and was involved in transactions ranging in size from small to very large ticket. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, and a master of business administration degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

He has been active in the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA) as a past member of its board of directors and chairman of three committees.
