Valerie Gerard, a managing director with The Alta Group, leads the firm’s management consulting practice. Leveraging her extensive career and areas of expertise, Valerie’s research and consulting work for Alta clients has included a variety of market entry, capital markets access, rating agency advisory, investment community messaging, and market survey projects.
She has worked in the financial services, media, and telecommunications industries for more than 25 years, developing deep management expertise in business strategy, capital markets/funding, corporate reputation and valuation, investor relations, and rating agency relations.

Prior to joining Alta, Valerie established her own strategic advisory firm, Intellectual Capital Advisors LLC, in Denver. Earlier, she served as chief investor relations officer for several S&P 500 and FTSE 100 companies in New York and London, including CIT Group Inc., Cable & Wireless plc, Dow Jones & Company, and AT&T Capital Corporation. In addition, she was in charge of the Finance and Leasing Company Group for Fitch Ratings Service, where she published more than 100 pieces of industry and company-specific research.
Valerie’s accomplished career has included being widely regarded as one of the top investor relations professionals in the industry. She is a long-time member and subject matter expert for the National Investor Relations Institute and chaired the Investor Relations Advisory Task Force for the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association for three years. Valerie played an instrumental role on the committee that launched the ELFA’s first Investors’ Conference. She also was a member of the Financial Relations Committee for the American Financial Services Association as well as a member of three New York State Senate advisory committees.
Valerie is a frequent industry speaker and author of industry research articles. She completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School and received a Bachelors of Art degree in liberal arts from Vassar College.
