James R. (Jim) Jackson, Jr. is co-Chief Executive Officer at The Alta Group and leader of its Merger and Acquisition Advisory Practice. Alta’s clients benefit from the fresh perspective provided by our experience in arranging more than 200 equipment leasing and specialty finance business acquisitions across a spectrum of business models and equipment segments, locating funding sources and additional capital for companies, and completing formal valuations. Jim believes that a strong cultural fit between the buyer and the seller is the key to long term success.
Jim has over 30 years of operating experience in the equipment leasing and finance industry and most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer at MicroFinancial / TimePayment Corporation. He oversaw the successful sale of the company to funds held by Fortress Investment Group. Earlier in his career, he co-founded a start-up technology leasing and finance division for Deutsche Financial Services, served as manager of business planning at AT&T Capital Corporation, and held several financial positions at Signal Capital Corporation.
Jim is recognized as an industry leader and has written numerous articles on M&A related activity. Mr. Jackson sits on the Board of the National Equipment Finance Association, a national trade association comprised of professionals serving the equipment leasing and finance industry, serving as Board President for the 2021-2022 term.
He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Babson College in Wellesley, MA, and a bachelor’s degree from Hawthorn College in Antrim, NH.
