John Hurt


John Hurt is a director with the Alta Group. He has 25+ years in the equipment finance industry designing and applying technology to support lease and loan originations, national and international sales teams, customer relationship management platforms, and process improvement initiatives. He brings experience in CIO-level positions with major lessors with responsibility for strategic system design, evaluation, selection, and implementation of all core systems.

Prior to joining Alta in 2016, John was senior vice president of technology for MB Equipment Finance. In 2012 he was part of the startup team which created Cole Taylor Equipment Finance. He was responsible for all technology, marketing, and compliance during the start up. He held the title senior vice president of technology during the startup until the merger with MB in 2014. In his previous role as Senior Vice President of Information Systems for LaSalle National Leasing (now part of Banc of America Leasing), John was responsible for developing IT strategies for the company’s U.S. and Canadian leasing divisions and pioneered the development of a market-leading sales management strategy. John’s experience also includes designing a fast-growing lessor’s IT infrastructure and founding a consulting practice that assisted growing businesses in developing strategies to leverage technology to enhance sales force effectiveness and enhance back-office efficiency.

During his 8 years at Alta John has worked with lessors focusing on various ticket sizes and vertical markets in all equipment verticals assisting with system selection, process reengineering and salesforce automation. In addition, he has worked with most of the main service providers and many new entrants helping them evaluate their products for the US market.

John served on the Technology Committee for the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA) and the ELFA technology award review committee. He has more than 30+ years of senior-level Information Technology experience in the financial sector both in and outside of equipment finance and holds a B.S. from Towson State University.
